Image Manipulations

Hey guys!

So, I've gotten to wondering whether we actually have any sort of policy regarding artists uploading images using manipulations of other works (be it movie stills, video game backgrounds, pre-existing Star Wars art...) ??

This is spurred mainly by JohnGWolf's most recent upload which is really nicely put together, a very pleasing piece, and very obviously something that could be used by GMs/players/RPers wherever on the internet-- but does have work inserted which isn't John's (namely the commandos, and apologies if I am mistaken in this and he IS in fact the original source of the commando images around the internet!!).

My personal sense of Internet Artist Politeness itches away at me that things like this aught to be credited or acknowledged in some way, and I'm just wondering if we as a site have any stance on the matter? Are we not bothered because it has been artfully combined into a unique image? Is it up to each artist themselves as to how fully they wish to credit elements of their submissions?

The stance on it is pretty simple... If it's not your work, it doesn't go up on the site.

If they are indeed not John's work, then I'll take it down.

But I'll wait to hear from John on it.

There are two obvious sources for the manipulated imagery in this picture:

Given the clear discrepancy of artistic styles, as well as several telltale photomanip artifacts, this is obviously a case of image manipulation. The policy on SWAG is that you post your artwork, and not the work of someone else. I've tried to bend the rules here and there, asking Eclipse if I could include other work, even with credit, but he told me that I shouldn't, just to be on the safe side.

with the evidence given, and John hasn't said anything.. I unpublished it. I'm not Eclipse, he's got the great mind of keeping track of what is a photo manip and what isn't.. I don't... I trust the artists to put up only their own work.
