Okay, I figured I owed you guy's an explanation of what's going on.

I talked to Kris and we talked quite a bit about SWAG and where it's going. Kris is still working like mad on his project at work, however he forsees a lawl in his work in a few months. To that end he's given me permission to play with the site.

I don't know how many of you remember the annoying Google Ad's we had on the site at one time. It was the only way that Kris could think of putting up ads at the time with the version of Drupal we are running. However the problem with google ads was no control of what get's put up on the site. After some time, the google ads just simply stopped working and Kris hated them enough that he decided it wasn't worth the effort to get them working again. Which I'm sure we can all agree...

The new ads are graphics that I have put together for Edge of the Empire. The site is not being paid for these ads. However I wanted to show advertisers that we now have the ability to place ads. This might get some interested in putting up ads on the site, thus helping Kris pay for the site, and maybe even upgrading the server and other things on the site. Making SWAG the best it can be.

If you see anything.. and I do mean anything.. that looks out of place, or just off please let me know. I am new to drupal and don't know everything about it yet. But I'm learning

I was about to start a new thread to say how awesome these new ads are! It's perfect, we really SHOULD be hosting cool ads for things that are relevant to our community. Ads are not a strictly bad thing - they can definitely be mutually beneficial.

Yes... I'm hoping that I can get it to the point that SWAG is making some money so Kris can afford to update/upgrade and make SWAG the site it needs to be.

Now.. I did some research ((though I am going to do some more)) but thought I'd get some input on it here.

The site is capable of holding the following sizes of ads...

The top banner is 1 X 10 inches... or 2-1 X 5 inches The same goes for the bottom banner ((which is blank right now.))

As far as the other ad that you can see, I can put anything there I want to... I think it should be limited to 3" in height and 10" in width, but smaller or bigger it will go there without disrupting anything else on the site.

So, what do you guy's think about the placement of ads, how big should that bottom one get?

I think the setup you've got now is awesome, from the perspective of a consumer. I'm not sure what would be ideal for the advertiser, but I'm willing to bet you've got a good handle on it so far.

I must say, I thought the ads looked great when I first saw them. Not too intrusive or 'fugly', and I like that in this case they are specifically related to Star Wars.

If you can have that kind of control over what gets placed, and are able to keep it reasonably related to SW or RPG's in general, I'm all for it. Especially if that helps generate some cash flow that will go towards improving this site.

On a side note, the ad actually makes ME want to buy the game, and I haven't done any role-playing in YEARS [in fact, I've never run a game either but I still am tempted to buy this book!]. It looks really great from what I've seen so far.

We should have an Edge of the Empire Hangout game using Roll20. I know that someone's created a diceroller app for Edge in Roll20. Make it a SWAG event, we do a write up on it, then link to the Hangout video on Youtube. We keep the scenario light and simple, and we try to keep the OOC chatter to a minimum, so it stays under 90 minutes.

Xan -I will definitely let FFG know I saw the ad here if & when I buy this book. I really wish it was available NOW, I think I would absolutely buy it on impulse. Man, I can't believe its a 448pg book - that is a staggering amount of work! I once did the layouts & most of the illustration for a 256pg rulebook, and that nearly killed me, lol!
