Holy crap! Doc Manhattan looks awesome! Sam and Dean's dad as the Comedian! Rorschach! Still it's only the trailer. Although it rocked my socks off, I will withhold final judgment onto the actual movie when it gets released next year.

Quicktime file here. Right click and save.

I can't believe it's been 21 years since it first came out where I read it at my friend's house.

Well... I guess it's okay. "300" was a fine exercise in complete transferal of comic into film, but was otherwise kinda empty of meaning.

Alan Moore never inspired much interest in his comic books for me, being a bearded crazy person. "V for Vendetta" (the film, I mean!) was kinda cool. And he disowned it. So what does that say?

Anyway, cool trailer. I give you that. :) Still, it won't beat "THE DARK KNIGHT" in sheer awesomeness.

I watched the trailer so many times yesterday, it looks so awesome. I never read the comic but two of my former colleagues were always raving about it and they are both big comic-nuts.

For me I think this looks a lot more interesting than the Dark Knight. I just can't get excited about that film. I want to see it of course, Ledger's Joker looks great, but I was underwhelmed by Begins so I'm not getting my expectations up this time.

I did a comparison of the visuals. Check it out!

Personally I think Zack Snyder's style suits Watchmen's alternate universe of 1985. For better or for worse, this will not be anything like 300 because of the detailed and layered storyline of Watchmen. 300, on the other hand, was 5 issues of stylized battle. There wasn't much to do with it in the first place.

The Watchmen trailer looks pretty dang cool... something right up my alley. But I'm really excited about the remake of the Day the Earth Stood Still. I hope it's amazing. (and I hope they use those original three words George Lucas stole for his aliens in Ep. VI: Klaatu, Barata, Nikto)
And Stu, I just saw Dark Knight last night and it blew my mind. I wasn't super impressed with the last one either, but this one was freaking amazing. The Joker was perfect, among other things...

Dark Knight was a fantastic bit of film making. It had me literally on the edge of my seat through the entire thing, and Joker was so crazy, I never knew what he was going to do next. I thought it was brilliant. On a side note, it was not a super hero film to me. It was like a dramatic thriller, that just so happened to have characters that are also in comic books, which I think is perfect for Batman especially, and many DC characters in general (I just think they're deeper).

As for Watchmen, I think it looked perfect. It was some kind of beautiful, violent poem that unraveled before my eyes. Even the remix of "The End is the Beginning is the End" (which was written for Batman and Robin haha) was a perfect song choice, I felt. I have read the comic, and if they nail the story, then this film will blow us all away.

Here's hoping this is the first good Alan Moore comic turned film. From Hell was good, but as I understand it, NOTHING like the graphic novel, and so was disappointing to many. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and V were terrible. Well, V was far over hyped, and I hope people stop letting the Watchowskis make movies. I don't think I can tolerate anymore overuse of "bullet time".

Having finally seen the movie, I gotta agree with you, ChurchClimbnRyan. It was kinda like the movie HEAT... only with a guy in a costume, a killer clown and a two-faced (ha-ha!) district attorney.

Only thing that bugged me was, yet again, the ordinary editing for the fight scenes: I could hardly see the details of the Bat-beatings!

An' I like dem beatin's. :D

And okay, dudes. You've convinced me on seeing THE WATCHMEN. And as I said, there was nothin' wrong with the trailer... I just ain't too partial to Zack Snyder, as a director, that's all. Maybe he'll prove me wrong. ;)
