Star Wars Miniatures: Art for the new Cusom Sets ?

So, the "wizards of the coast" game called "Star Wars Miniatures" will no longer be officially supported (ie no more sets). However the community will continue the game by producing "virtual sets" (ie future stats will be produced by a community organization). The art work on these card can't be copyrighted material, since it's not officially licensed stuff. I am curious if there is any interested at SWAG in producing art work on these "virtual sets". I am not officially involved in this, it's just fun question to throw out to you guys.

thanks, Nathan

That would be really nice to see! And just so everyone knows, the art on those cards is little more than pencil sketches, so the time/effort investment wouldn't be the hugest thing in the world (so says the non-artist! :P ).

Here's an example.

For some perspective: the Star Wars Trading Card Game officially ended about 10 years ago, yet it is still a popular game. The community is still going strong with several virtual sets a year. The Miniatures game is headed in the same direction. I'll ask around and see if the miniature community is looking for artist for these virtual sets.

I wonder if there will be issues with licensing? I mean, if star wars art is used and the artists are paid for their work, isn't that against the licensing since you don't have permission to do so?

I'm just wondering since the economy is bad, work is tight. If that is a dangerous move that can cause problems, how do people work around it?

There definitely wouldn't be any payment involved. These aren't being produced by Wizards of the Coast, but rather by a group of players who want to keep the game alive. It'd be just for the exposure, and to help out.
