Yes. I am absolutely for this.
I’ve been mulling starting a thread about something similar ever since Eclipse mentioned (in the super secret SWAG war room) that it might be worthwhile to have some sort of Mandalorian project going. (Up to that point, I had not realized that Mandalorians came in all sorts of sizes and species -- which is kinda neat.)
The idea is to have a Special Projects forum where Guild members can field input and ideas from the community for a blanket theme -- e.g. “Mandalorian Mayhem”, “Dastardly Denizens of Nar Shadaa”, “Coruscant Clubbing”, “Fishy Dark Siders”, whatever. Whoever starts a Special Projects thread becomes de facto project leader -- nothing too heavy, just take the initiative to pull folks in for contributions, help clarify the theme, put up links to reference images, etc. Discussions ensue, ideas are bantered about and developed (by everyone interested in contributing not just Guild artists), schtuff gets designed/sketched out, artists commit to a final piece here and there, some great stuff out of the whole collaborative effort gets put up in the galleries, folks get all hot and bothered and wanting to put some of that stuff into their games (maybe even give us stat blocks for the finished work).
The nice thing about it is it reverses the usual pattern of “gamer asking artist for a piece that fits his game” to “artist develops ideas with gamers who then put that into their game”.
Reactions? Comments? Hair-pulling?

I think it's a very creative idea. Something that will give the artists something to do other than just draw, actually have some actual interaction, and enjoy the site.
I'd be more than willing to put up forum areas specific to a project like this if there were enough interest.

To clarify: Anyone from the community can propose a special project, be they Guild artists or not.
The key to all this, of course, is to make each Special Project more open ended and collaborative than the usual request. As for interest? Well, we'll just have to see...

I posted a request like this recently, I need help with a characters background, and more than likely a bit on their personality as well.
I think this is a great idea, and I would offer to help but my knowledge of Star Wars EU is very limited (The Vong books killed my desire to read any of the EU back came out...)

That sounds like a fantastic idea. Both alot of fun for the artists to get involved in (maybe get to do some things you normally don't get around to), as well as a great resource for premade background characters and NPCs.
Good, good. Thanks for the input, guys. Let me see if I can come up with a clearer outline of this Special Projects thing (e.g. goals, how to begin a project, etc.). I'll post what I can towards the end of the coming week so everyone can help evaluate and decide how best it can be implemented.
If anyone has more ideas to add, just tack them on here.

Only thing I can think to suggest is to make a brainstorming thread... for everyone to just talk about anything and everything Star Wars, so more ideas can come up for the projects. Just a thought, it seems that the more things being said, the easier it is to pick up certain key things that you want to kep going on, and other things, that you figure out are just plain silly... Just a thought.
