Other SciFi Art (namely Stargåte)

Yo.

I don't know if posting a non-STAR WARS-related topic on this forum will cause me to be banned into eternal damnation, but I suspect not... at least with the cheese discussion going on in the topic just next door (http://swagonline.net/node/3918).

I like running RPG sessions in different scifi-settings. So, I happened to become addicted to the STARGÅTE-franchise a while back and have decided to run an RPG-campaign based on the TV show (more of a spin-off, like STARGÅTE: ATLANTIS, with an original setting but with themes linking it to the original).

So, I was just wondering, has anybody around here stumbled upon a nice cache of STARGÅTE-related artwork, 3D renders, wallpapers or other suitable visual material I could use?

If you have any ideas, drop me a line here, PM me or send me an e-mail, whatever floats you boat.

P.S
This same gaming group - including myself - is also eagerly awaiting the new MMORPG "STARGÅTE WORLDS". (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_Worlds)
So, if anyone is interested in just talking about that or even possibly interested in joining us for a few adventures online (when it is finally released!), feel free to contact me.

How DARE you make a topic that doesn't have to do with Star Wars... Shame on you!!!!!.....

Okay now that that is out of my system.. Nope, never thought about an RPG in Stargate, I liked the series, but not enough to try to create characters in it....

Hisham

I have thought of running a game in the Stargate universe. Quite an easy concept actually. Both SG-1 and Atlantis are made as if the teams are adventuring parties in RPGs. I seem to remember in the episode with Elia the Wraith, Shepperd's team started the episode EXACTLY like a classic D&D game where the party arrives at a village at night, buys drinks at the tavern, learns that the villagers are afraid to go out at night because of a monster in the woods, then volunteers to rid the village of the monster. (Though how Jewel Staite can be deemed a monster I'll never know.)

In terms of art, there's not much for us to play around with. If you're with an SG team, you wear different BDUs and carry standard modern weapons. The Goa'uld seem to wear the same one or two body armors. The Wraith too have little variations in their clothing, save for the Wraith Queens, though I don't know if I would want to play one.

In other words, it's a prety interesting universe, but it's not visually diverse as the Star Wars universe.

Well, I dare, Xanimiar! I DARE! ;)

And, thanks Evangelion. I hadn't stumbled across that particular website yet. I'll definetly check it out, it seem cool! So, again, thanks a bunch!

Hisham, we're on the same page. A STARGÅTE RPG would be rather easy to run because of the more or less episodic nature of the adventures. There is an overarching storyline, but most of the adventures are stand alone things. My STAR WARS sessions usually are big, epic events with continuing storylines that usually fail to entertain even if one member of the gaming team is not present. Makes scheduling games harder. Meanwhile, in a STARGÅTE "episode" a missing character/player can be explained away with little or no fuss.

Also, a game like STARGÅTE can include all kinds of science fiction stuff that STAR WARS couldn't, time travel, for instance.

I know STAR WARS - especially the D6 system - is very adaptable; one can run a whole range of differently themed STAR WARS campaigns, but I'm a purist in that matter; STAR WARS is STAR WARS; it includes lightsaber fights, big capital ship battles, roguish smugglers and dastardly villains... not time traveling, alternate realities or stuff like that.

But about the art, I gotta disagree. Or well, not. As far as the main characters go, I've always preferred the classis STAR WARS outfits; the beige jumpsuit of Luke Skywalker, the blue flight jacket of Han Solo. So in that matter, the STARGÅTE characters' clothing doesn't differ that much, as they go with drab green/blue/black fatigues and tactical vests.

When I said I was looking for visual material, I didn't mean character illustrations (though I'm not dismissing them, either). I meant more in the line of ships, events, technology and creatures. You know, eye candy, the stuff STARGÅTE is known for.

I, too, could not understand how one could see Jewel Staite as a monster. She even baked cookiees! And even under all that bug-make-up, she still looked hot.

P.S
So, anyone particularly interested in playing STARGATE WORLDS, when it comes out? Yeah, I know, I'm obsessed. But ever since STAR WARS GALAXIES took a swan dive into the toiled way back when, I've been jonesing for another good science fiction MMORPG.

Xanamiar

what server did you play on in SWG?

I was on Wanderhome as Shynira, and on Starsider as Shaina

Jace.Terrik

I played various characters, with my main (a marksman) and most of my alts on FarStar, an European server, back in 2004.

If I remember correctly, I got the game just a couple of months before the NGE's, then gradually just drifted away from the game a couple of months later, after that... didn't reactivate my account and don't intend to; the game caters too much to prequel-lovin' Jedi fanboys now. But that's just my opinion and my taste.

Tried WORLD OF WARCRAFT for a few months, too... but it was too longwinded and fantasy-ish. Not that I mind fantasy, I just have to be in a certain mindset for it. Plus, constantly getting killed on PvP servers got tiresome and the whole process of leveling up became more of a chore than a satisfying gaming experience.

Anyhoo, as far a STARGÅTE WORLDS is concerned, I've been seeing a few guilds ("commands", as they're called in the game) cropping up, and I was thinking of creating my own. Three other guys that I know may be interested, but the minimum is 4 registered members, so we need at least one more...

Awwww.... My next MMO will be StarWars KOTOR MMO ... ((Announced today)) .... Can't wait to see the first MMO from BioWare.. should be SWEET!

Jace.Terrik

That's a good point. Hadn't thought of that. Actually, BioWare's KOTOR MMORPG might be an alternative.

"Cut to the cheese already!"

JawaStu

Star Wars KOTOR, announced today? Linkage anyone?

I've avoided MMO's so far (because I know how addictive they can be) but I'm not sure I could resist a KOTOR MMO developed by Bioware... Mass Effect was incredible.

Jace.Terrik

MASS EFFECT and KOTOR I pretty much sum up the word "excellence".

Still, anyone interested in STARGATE WORLDS? We gotta cool guild taking form, along with an awesome logo.

Yes, logos mean everything. I think we'll even develop our own secret handshake.

"Cut to the cheese already!"

Jace.Terrik

So. No takers? It really is a cool logo. Still working on the secret handshake.
