(like that title better Xan? ;) )
I was wondering what, if any, music you geniuses listen to while you are creating your masterpieces. When I'm writing or cooking, my playlists might include everything from Def Leppard to Dvorak, and everything in between.
Also, I'm going to be locked in a vicious cycle of cooking/gaming/cooking this weekend, and I thought y'all might have some interesting ideas for me to ponder while I'm cooking steak and eggs for four hundred people.
I range from Beethoven, Brahms and Dvorak to NWA, Jedi Mind Tricks (how appropriate!), Del tha Funkee Homosapien and Coolio, to movie soundtracks (John Williams/Danny Elfman/Hans Zimmer), and sometimes (i.e., right now) I watch cartoons online in another window while I draw. :P

I'm a chef and when I cook I like to just click 'shuffle all' on the old iPod and go with it.
My iPod has everything from Dolly Parton and Duran Duran to Hollywood Undead (white boy hiphop from the US) to the good old stuff of Def Leppard.
What I really find keeps me happy is downloading comedy sketches from stuff like 'A Little Bit of Fry and Laurie" funny stuff.
And if any of you awful poeple don't know what that is, youtube it NOW!!
Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie are two of the smartest and funniest poeple to come out of England, along with Rowan Atkinson AKA Mr Bean :)
I actually caught several seasons of "A Little Bit of Fry and Laurie" when I studied in the UK in the early 90s. I recently obtained its first season and had a blast going through the episodes. One skit had them as police and verbally harassing a baby, causing it to whimper and cry for real. I felt guilty chuckling over that skit.
absolute silence...just me and my thoughts.....really it's so I can do sound effect while I draw
Purcell, funny you should mention Hollywood Undead...their song My Black Dahlia plays an integral part in my poor Bella losing her mind eventually. When I was catering a wedding last year, the MOTB (mother of the bride) happened to try to walk into the kitchen (which is another sin for another time) when I was rocking out to Rammstein and Laibach while I was breaking down a beef quarter. She just kind of backed away slowly and left.
Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry and Rowan Atkinson are simply gods. I grew up waaaay out in the sticks without cable TV, so I watched a TON of Britcoms on PBS. I think it permanently ruined my sense of humor. They set the bar so high....
Asok, I've never heard of Jedi Mind Tricks, what kind of music are they?
I'm not an artist, and I don't listen to music all that much...
And .. nah.. like the long name, I thought it was funny :)
Jedi Mind Tricks is straight-up rap, and it's pretty rough, so it's definitely not for everybody. :P

If your not to uptight, below is an amazing piece by Fry and Laurie, its about MJ way back when.

OMG Purcell - I bought the 4 season box set of 'A bit of Fry and Laurie' for my husband's birthday back in May!!
I still think "Kicking Ass" is hilarious!!
Genius, pure genius... I also really like Stephen Fry in Qi - funny AND educational?!
As for music, I came across a CD by a new local band called 'Harbour City Electric' which I've been listening to constantly over the last few weeks. It's sort of Jazz meets soul meets acid-funk.
Check them out HERE, I highly reccommend it!
If you have not watched Farador on you tube you are missing out. It's in french but is sub-titled into english....It is more D&D related but does have a starwars ref in it
OMG! I've seen this before and it is SO funny!!
(Love the SW reference!!)
Harbour City Electric are pretty frickin' sweet!
And as for Farador... Pure 'magic' :)
I went through a stage of Soul loving, really liking B.B King at the minute.
Check it B.B King
NICE man!
You know he taught Robert Cray?
Also, if you're into Fry and Laurie, have you seen the 'Jeeves and Wooster' series? It's brilliant!!
No I didn't but Cray is amazing.
Jeeves and Wooster, oh if only that were still playing on a sunday, life would be so much better!
I also like watching the Qi reruns on 'Dave', Fry oozes knowledge.
Totally! I bought the first season of Qi from the BBC shop and now I'm saving up to buy the next one!
If you can find it you should totally watch some of the 'Crossroads' concert. Eric Clapton and friends, basically. It's got Robert Cray, B. B. King, James Taylor, Santana, John McLauchlin, Steve Vai and ZZ Top, to name a few - WELL worth a look in!!
