I got Good News a couple days ago! A local Graphic Design company became interested in me! The bad news, They wanna meet with me! :O! Does anyone have any advice as to what I should put in my portfolio, or how much I should ask? It is an in house job and they do magazines, logos and advertisements... I know that I should put some of my logos I've created and what not, I'm just looking for advice? This kind of hit me by surprise so anything is helpful... HELP! :Z

Beeee yourself... :) ....

Really though.. if they like your work.. I'd suggest giving them as much of it as possible, including any and all logos you have made... Give them enough stuff to let them know who you are :) ...

And congrats on the interview :)

Oh, and definately put in your Merc'd add... not only will they find it funny, but they'll see how good at advertising something that doesn't even exist you are... :)

And that's another idea... put together several adds/logos for either things that do exist .. or things you make up...

Definitely be yourself, don't get too nervous, they sought you out. If you have some cash get a nice leather portfolio and enlarge your work printing it out on your port sheets, come up with a logo design for yourself and include as many relevant pieces you can for magazines, logo work, etc.

When in your interview focus on what you can add to the company from your perspective. Include buzz words like: Passion for your career, dedication to your profession, and ability to work with deadlines. Also if it's a bigger company include your ability to work well with others, and attention to detail. Instead of saying "well I did this, this and this" try to focus on the end result of your efforts. "I created a brand logo that is used in several regional and national campaigns, for ..." "I have completed several successful projects involving design and content for the following companies, etc."

Be confident in your skills, but don't have an ego.

"I am excited to work with well minded employees who are focused on the goals of this company..."

Do some research about the company and if at all read and memorize their mission statement, use it in the verbal interview.

Hope this helps, I just did this a week ago and got the job.

I can never stress this enough:

Dress right.

Remember, the first bite is with the eye. But that's usually for food, so you're safe. Unless your interview is a vampire.

Lol! Thanks everybody for the advice! I have until Monday to get my stuff together and impress 'em. If they ask me how much would I like to get payed, what is a modest amount without sounding outrageous or foolish? i.e. What does a Graphic Designer typically make? It's a smaller company in California with a small number of employees. Thanks again for all the advice guys and Congrats Scriado!

By the way I thought it appropriate to Thank SWAG right now to give me the confidence to show my art to people and giving me a medium to express myself to the public. There's no way those guys would have looked twice at me if it weren't for me sitting up till late hours trying to get a request done way back in middle school. Thanks SWAG and everyone involved!

How much experience do you have? If you are starting out $12-20 an hour if starting out. If you have more than 6 years pro experience I would go 25+.

Well, you wont see anything of mine around where you live most likely. The Graphic Design company I work for caters specifically to businesses where I'm from and makes commercials, logos, and other very "ordinary" things. Probably never gonna do anything like I do on here on the job. :P
