Hey everyone. The Demo for the new game has been released today for the PS3 and Xbox 360. I've just downloaded it (about 900mb on the xbox) and had a play and have to say I like what I've seen so far.

The character of Vader's secret appentice is very cool, and his and animation, design and fighting style is awesome. The nonchalant way he deflects blaster shots is brilliant. The physics of the game are great too, throwing objects and stormtroopers around is alot of fun.

My only worry is that the controls are quite difficult to get used to, perhaps I have invert my camera because I didn't feel in control of where I was throwing stuff a lot of the time. Hopefully, mastery of the controls will come with practice.

I'll definitely consider buying this when it is released next month (if I can afford it).

I don't know how many other console gamers are on SWAG, but the demo is definitely worth a look if you're able!

Rylis

I'm going to be downloading and playing the demo today, definitely.

And I'm going to be buying the game next month (I'm the resident SW geek at my work - Gamestop - so I have to know about this game).

However, I really am not a fan of how overpowered everything appears to be. It bothers me. I don't really have high hopes for the game. I have a feeling it will be like KOTOR - highly praised by most people, but completely disliked by a small minority of SW fans (myself included).

Xanamiar

I can't wait for the game.... I want it SO BAD.... but for the WII... Love the idea of actually feeling like I'm controlling the saber.

Lord Crumb

I just wish they would release it for the PC. All I have found is for Xbox and PS3. I love the SW: Kotor 1 & 2 plus Jedi Knight series.

Rylis

KOTOR...I have gone on for hours on why that game is not actually that great. The first is okay, but the second is downright boring - and I know the ending was rushed, etc. But I got bored to the point of quitting a quarter of the way through.

And I'm sure this game will come out for the PC eventually. It's coming out for the PS2 and Wii as well, and I think DS and PSP.

Lord Crumb

Ok, I admit that Kotor: 2 was a let down and I didn't enjoy it as much as I did the first one. But the Previews for the FORCE UNLEASED looks cool.

Well it looks like Force Unleashed is be, um, unleashed on all platforms except PC. Which does seem odd. There is a precedent though for consoles games to be released later on PC. Games like Halo, Fable, Gears of War and Mass Effect (that I can think of) have all had PC-versions released months (and sometimes years) after the initial release. So there is some hope for you PC gamers to cling on to. :)

I've played the demo through several times now (it really is a very short level) and I'm getting more used to the handling now. Some of the powers do seem to be overpowered at first glance, but you do have a very limited force-power bar that quickly becomes depleted if you rely on them too much. I'm guessing that as the game goes on your powers get stronger and last longer.

dredwulf60

Funny thing about HALO; was originally designed FOR the PC, but Microsoft forbade it being released so that they could sell more X-boxes, because they knew it would be a must-have sort of game. Which is precisely why I have never played it. :)

Rylis

Halo's overrated anyway :P

I'm going to say the thing that disappointed me the most about the demo was indeed how short it was. It ended so abruptly, it was like you got a third of the way through and BAM, you're done. I wanted to fight the Jedi...

Xanamiar

Sounds like a perfect demo to me... Grab your attention, put you into the game, let you get the feel of it... then YANK.... You have to buy the game to get to the REALLY cool stuff....

Yep.. sounds like a perfect Demo to me.

I have to say, the potential for the game is quite great, the story alone could be incredibly compelling, bridging that gap between Episodes 3 and 4. I still haven't seen the Clone Wars movie yet, but I hope that the writers of the game and the movie had some kind of collaboration since they both involve Anakin/Vader's apprentices. If they can draw a parrallel between Anakin's relationship with of Ahsoka and Vader's training of his secret apprentice then that would surely be brilliant, adding a whole new layer to the character and perhaps even the entire saga (?).

And for those of you without a console to follow what could be a must-see chapter in the saga I believe there is comic and a novelisation of Force Unleashed due for release at the same time of the game! :D

Mercy

No PC version?! Oh, for the love of...

We have a PS3, so I guess I'll be getting it on that, but I still kinda prefer the old PC gaming. Ah, well.
Hey, what is 'Jedi Knight' like? I've played through KOTOR 1 & 2 (I agree - 1 was better, but on second and third playing I found there was quite a bit of fun to be had in either of them and the whole light/dark side possibilities gave the game a lot of replay-ability, I thought).
I haven't played JK yet and I wonder if it is now too late, with the progression in graphics being what it is.
So, is it worth it?

Xanamiar

I have the wii, and can't wait for TFU for it... Love the idea of using the wii remote as the saber, and having ACTUAL control over it... SO AWESOME!!!

Braltika

Consoles are lame...I hate the clunky gamepads and all that. I really want to see and play this game though. There is something pleasing when thinking about smashing stormtroopers against the wall and making their star destroyers crash on the planetary surface with the use of the force.

CCR

I've been waiting for this game to come out for over a year. I really can't wait. I actually was checking LIVE Marketplace repeatedly waiting for the demo to drop.

I found the controls to be pretty easy to get into, and I really think Force Unleashed will be one of the best Star Wars games in a long, long time.

Thus far, KOTOR is definitely my favorite though. Actually, Lego Star Wars was really awesome too.

Lord Crumb

Loved the Lego Star Wars. lol. Still a pc gamer, so I am going to have to wait for The Force Unleashed to come out for the PC before I can play it. But enjoy reading how y'all respond to it raises my excitement for the game. Also waiting for the TSL Restoration Project to release a major patch for KOTOR:2.

Mercy

Guys - apparently Force Unleashed sucks on the Wii. I've never used on, myself, but I suggest checking the reviews or trying it out first to all those looking to get it on that platform. Just a heads-up...

Drig

It goes like this wii owners...

It is very similar to the ps2 version apparently, however the graphics were boosted a little more than the ps2's. If this is bothersome to you, you may want to get a ps3 or xbox 360 to get the better graphics.

The ps3 at least (I havent seen the xbox 360 version yet) has much more detail and you can see (not walk) farther. For example, the game opens on kashyyk; on the ps3 it takes place during the day and their are ties fighters flying in the distance and things exploding far off and you walk around outside. On the wii, its takes place at night around a kashyyk complex on fire and camera shaking action. They both look good... They are just differences in what the system can handle. Like I've said before, the controls are a bit difficult to get the hang of for the wii but being able to thrust your hand out to force push some one feels pretty cool. The characters on ps3 are very realistic looking, similar in quality to other ps3 games like heavenly sword. The wii's characters are slightly simpler shaped and more comic book like, similar to other wii games like zelda or metroid.

I want to stress this last point. Both games ARE fun! They play very similar to God of War or Assassin's Creed with slashing up tons of baddies and doing combos on bosses. If that's your thing than do it. The graphical difference is not a big enough point to make wii owners say its a waste of money. The real question is Would you rather have graphics or motion control? Your decision, same game. Hopefully thats helpful a little. Don't be scared wii owners rent it if your too worried.

*gets off soapbox*

nerulean

Oh man. I haven't seen the XBox or PS3 versions of this game, but I don't care how pretty it is: I wouldn't swap the fun of the Wii's motion sensitive controls for anything. The tutorial made me giggle like a schoolkid just to see how intuitive and awesome the controls are. Force push? Thrust your left hand out in front of you like you used to do when you were playing Star Wars in the playground. Swinging a lightsaber? Just swing your lightsaber! It even goes ZHWING.

Mercy

Hey cool, I'm glad it's fun on the Wii - I just thought I had better mention it...

Is anyone other than me finding the game incredibly, irritatingly difficult at times, though? I mean, I'm not a hardcore gamer but it seems to have no problem giving you little people to throw around the screen like rag-dolls (very fun) and then dumping you straight into a boss-battle that seems darned-near impossible! The amount of swearing I did at the TV last night would have made a sailor blush. Is it just me?

nerulean

The difficulty gap between the boss battles and the rest is pretty large. Against the earlier ones, it's sometimes easier to just let the thing get hold of you and then beat it at the Simon Says sequence, since they do a fairly consistent chunk of damage, but the timing on those gets really really tight later on. One tactic that is boring but efficient is to just get behind the boss and zap it with Force Lightning or its aerial cousin. This gets harder later too, but aside from a few shockwave attacks, most of the bosses don't seem to be able to touch the 180 arc behind them.

Drig

Maybe I'm just weird but... I die so often by being overwhelmed by stormies and felucians than the bosses. I haven't really had a problem with a boss yet... Pretty much one try for all the bosses so far and I'm past felucia a bit (not to give too much away)...

nerulean

The game definitely gets hectic in the big areas, but at least the slimy little grunts stay dead when you respawn instead of regenning health like the bosses. The problem there is that area of effect stuff is good for getting yourself some space, but is seldom lethal quickly enough. One thing I have noticed in the grunt sections is that if you pick up one grunt and smash him into another, it's an insta-kill for both of them. Otherwise, using cover, using Dash, and using the block action are good for surviving.

Mercy

I bumped myself down to apprentice and found it much easier...

I also found it more enjoyable. Apart from the odd areas where the game resorts to cheap repetitiveness - when you get to the bit with the TIE fighters and the bridge you'll know what I mean - it was a lot of fun! Unfortunately, on anything other than 'Apprentice' level I feel like I just paid NZ$120.00 to have my head banged against a wall. Maybe I need to work my way up to it. Figuring out how to use the force-grip properly would be a start!

Rylis

I've just hit the first plot 'twist' in the game (really, who didn't see that coming from a mile away?), and I'm warming up to the game the more I play, but I'm still not hugely impressed. It's a decent game. It's just not great, or even very good.

I got overwhelmed a whole ton by the Felucians, and I nearly threw my controller at the wall while on Raxus Prime (bloody scrap guardians kept knocking me off the bridge, I thought they were all destroyed and was pulling down the girder to get to the next section, and one came up behind me and knocked me off). And I had an easier time killing the rancors than the Felucian Chieftains.

But yes, there is a definite swarming problem in this game.

And the controls are still horrible, or at least the auto-lock thing. So many times it's made me latch onto the wrong thing, which usually resulted in me getting killed...

Force Repulse is a great little move if you're surrounded, though. And Shaak Ti's voice was so dead-on perfect for her, in my opinion.

But yeah. Okay game. Not perfect. I've found several glitches, between playing it at home on my 360 and playing at work on the PS3. Not really worth $60. But meh. I'll finish it.

CCR

Susan Eisenberg, who voiced Shaak Ti, is awesome. Incidentally, she was also Wonder Woman in the Justice League cartoons.

I really really love this game. I actually think the controls work very well, but I admit there are occasions when I'm trying to throw something and wind up missing more than I'd like. Strangely, it seems to happen most when I'm fighting a single, huge miniboss.

I think the story is really excellent as well, but I wish there was more of it. It seems like they could have added a lot more depth, and some of the cutscenes just feel like they left things out. I'm hoping that the novelization will have more, but some of the reviews I've read on Amazon do not support this.

Overall, DEFINITELY worth renting, but maybe not worth purchasing at full price unless you have the cash to spare.
