SWAG Sabacc Deck

Okay, I've been messing with this idea for some time now.  And I wanted to bring it to everyones attention.

I'd like to get all of our artists ((who would like to help))  to get together and make a SWAG Sabacc deck.  I'd love to see each of the face cards done by a different artist.  

 

Now, after doing research about Sabacc there are two different decks.  I'd like to use the Centran deck, to get more artwork into it. 

This News is to find out who all would be interested in helping with the design of the deck.  Eclipse already has a back for the deck, we just need all the cards made.

My thought here is to let artists choose what they'd like to make.  I'd love to see a deck made by a bunch of different artists but be completely cohesive.

 

So, let me know if you're interested in this news as a reply... and we'll iron out all the details among the artists who wish to be involved.

 

A standard sabacc deck includes 76 cards.

Also: Keep your eye out for a Coloring contest that will be coming up shortly.  I think it should be fun for everyone.

Very keen! Cautiously eyeing off Endurance or The Wheel (if I could find more info on what exactly it's meant to represent).

We'd be fine to do full on illustrations, right? Not just aiming for road-sign symbols??

I'm hoping for full illustrations Tusserk.. and I'll need artists to pick up a lot more than just one card :)

 

Though, one face card would be great, and then maybe some of the others...   Depending on how many artsist we get that are interested :)

Despite the fact that my knowledge of sabacc goes little further than Lando, I humbly request a spot in on dis! Perhaps I can learn how to play in the process. Now this wheel card, is that like, the space casino "The Wheel", or just a wheel. If nothing else I want dibs on a face card... An maybe the crashed starship....

I'm definitely happy there is some interest...   I'm trying to figure out the best way to do it, in order to get the entire deck made up.  Tuss did kind of claim "The Wheel" and I'm sure she'll figure out a perfect star warsy way of doing a wheel :) ... I like the idea of the Casino space wheel...   but you never know...

Aaaand, yeah! There's a neat little space casino in the outer rim, just shy of Centares. It's called "The Wheel", and it's home to numerous smugglers, gamblers, and other unsavory types.

I'm going to let the artists pick what they want to do... first come, first pick :)  Like the requests...  The Artists get what they want here :) ....   Besides, I'd never assign a card to any artist, if you lack inspiration for the card, you'll never do it.

So, do these pieces need to be digital? Because your card reference doc is in adobe photoshop format. My computer is crap and cannot run such high end programs. It's got..... *sigh* It's got Windows XP..... I'm so ashamed... And poor...

I'm betting if you did up the pic you could fire it off to Xan or somebody for final formatting.  We've got a few people here with a better eye for the technical end of things than us classic pen and pencil folk:)

If you do something up, I can make it fit the format...  I provided the PSD file for those who are tech savy ((and able to do so with their computers)) ...  I can make it fit as well. 

 

I should probably say... Please do not upload your cards to the gallery.  Let me know if you're done with one and I'll send you my email to send it too...  I want to go through all the cards and make sure they all look good. :)  And somewhat cohesive...

Sure....   :) .. I'm happy there's intrest...  you can also do a suit of cards if you feel so inclined.

 

Oh, and the Master/Mistress and those cards.. aren't technically "Face Cards"  the ones below those are face cards.

Looked over the deck...  The Legate card would need to be done for each suit...  adding up to 78 cards in the Centran deck

I'm gonna try doing something digital. Using Sketchbook Express and canvas size is 4 in. x 3 in. A little bigger than a Pokemon card. Is that too big?

I'd like to keep each suit to one artist.   So if there is an artist who wants to undertake 15 cards .. let me know which suit you want :) ...  It's a big project but I'd like to keep the suits looking like they all belong together.  

So if someone wants to take Coins, they'd make 1 - 11 on the coins, and then the Commander, Mistress, Master,  and Ace of that same suit.  That way the coins would all look exactly like all the other coins, and the Commander Mistress Master and Ace would all look like they belong to their coin counterparts.

Heeeeyyy! I've been having some thoughts about this myself. And while I like the idea of each suit having some cohesion, I feel like 15 cards for one person is a huge task... not to mention perhaps limiting the number of people who can participate!! But, I was wondering-- what if each suit had a real 'theme' for the illustrations? Something like-- sabers (the obvious one) being dedicated to the lightsaber weilding folk of the universe, all illustrations that pertain somehow to Jedi/Sith etc. Flasks, coins, staves could all be interpreted a number of ways I guess... coins I almost see as 'underworld' themed, smugglers and bounty hunters and crime lords and all those types who are ultimately driven by coin? Staves... my brain goes to military? The soldiers, troopers, law enforcement, bluh bluh. And flasks... I dunno, I think explorers, or just honest citizens... scenes of family life and people working the earth, I don't know, haha. But we could also maybe set up some sort of template for each style of card to keep some sort of consistency as well, so that... if the 'master' of one suit is done as your traditional playing card face card aesthetic, the master of EVERY suit is; or if it's a portrait, or a detailed scene, or a piece that involves a ship, or or or...

I like it Tuss...     Perhaps one artist can do all the suits ((4 suit emblems))  then we can split up each card to it's own...  And put the symbols on top.... For instance...

 

You decide to do the 1 of Sabres...  You make a beautiful illustration of a very young jedi (( since it is the one))  and then I can insert the Sabre emblem onto the card as well as the 1 ...  so it would have the 1 (Sabre) on the left and right corner of the card.  The someone else can make the 2 of sabres ..   with a slightly older Jedi/Sith....  And I'll put the 2 (sabre) on the left and right corner.

But if the coins are the gamblers/smugglers and underworld...  what are the flasks?...   The drunken deprived of the worlds?

 

EDIT:   I say we make the Flasks the different Casino's...   Background cards...  different casino backgrounds...  It'd be perfect for a flask.

Hmmmm... I've always thought of flasks as fully of whiskey :) .. Goes to show the difference in culture I guess :)

To let you guys know, I'm loaded down with work and school this week. I'll do my best to edit the card I already did to meet Xan's ideas. I assume I've no need to rush, seeing as how we're still in the planning stage. Since I've got all summer I could probobly afford to start over, if need be.

2 of each face card.  Right.

So...is the plan to have the same image for each face card, or two variations on the theme?

Specifically, are there going to be two images for 'The Evil One', for instance?

So you want to build a 'Centran' deck then.  Gotcha. So going to need a 'Legate' for each suit too.

 

I just threw together a 'standard' Sabacc deck.  Took 9 hours, using some clip art and photoshop and uploaded it for use on the Roll20 virtual tabletop.  So far, so good.

I'm still looking forward to seeing the SWAG deck as a Centran.
