I wasn't very happy with sending private messages for notifications of updates on content you're following, so I spent some time working out another solution. It's not as pretty, but I think it's way more expandable in the long term, and gives us some leverage to "pretty it up" in ways the other solution could simply not do. Let me know if you see any issues in the system and I'll see what I can do, Private Messages should be purely private messages again. Obviously, any of the old messages that were used as notifications are still hanging around, you might want to delete them if you hadn't already.
I'll be attempting to clean up some of the stuff about notifications in the near future if possible, but it's down and dirty and should work for the time being. Let me know what you think. :-)
Eclipse
Working beautifully... I like it!.. thumbs up from me so far :)
The recent explosion of comments on "Progress" is proving that this isn't anywhere close to where it needs to be, but it IS functioning as designed thus far, so that's really encouraging. I might put some more time into it in the next few days and see if it can't be made a little better. We'll see.
Eclipse
Anyway you can make it so that it notifies you once of something being posted... then if you already have a notification it doesnt' renotify?
And a "Delete Notifications" would be very usefull
Yeah, I'm not 100% happy with the current implementation either. Do we want to group Messages having to do with the same content? Maybe just provide a list of users who've commented on it that resulted in notifications? Doing that would be weird on my end. Providing the delete would probably be simple enough, but do you see yourself keeping notifications clean? or just letting them run forever like facebook or something?
Eclipse
I keep everything I can clear... I hate not knowing for sure what I've clicked and what I haven't...
And I'd say.. just a notification of the first post you haven't seen would be enough.. Once you click on it, you'll see the rest.
Actually, I think the notifications are what allowed that explosion of comments. It's much easier to have a comments-conversation now. I think it's working quite well.
