I think simple is the way to go when creating a lightsaber. You did a good job. I never understood the recharging port on a lightsaber as I thought the feedback loop kept the power cell charged after the intial charge.
From what I understand the feedback loop does keep the saber charged while activated so in essence you could have the saber ignited indefinitely but when the blade come into contact with something the power cells are drained somewhat. So heavy combat or general use ( cutting things ) could necessitate the power cells being recharged from time to time.
