Zeraphem:

Zeraphem are a large, exceedingly rare sentient species which evolved from gigantic filter-feeding, fresh water bivalves on the planet Cōōlsari. They stand between 2.5 to 3 meters tall, with the majority of their bodies being inside of a drab gray shell, which hinges between the lower two of their five appendages, which could be construed as stubby, legless two-toed feet when extended. The middle two appendages are much longer fingerless tentacles, which are more than capable of even minute control. Each of these tentacles is approximately 3 meters in length when fully extended, though it is rare to see a Zeraphem fully extended as all of it's appendages fold neatly into its shell when it is startled, sleeping, unconscious, or just not moving. The last of its appendages is a thick muscular eye stalk, which ends in a single small eye. While Zeraphem shells are always the same drab gray, the flesh which resides inside can be anywhere from common pink to lime green to in very rare occasions, white. As it breathes fresh water and also derives its food source from fresh water, a Zeraphem is unable to leave its source of fresh water, though this has, in at least one case been overcome with the use of a self contained environmental suit, build specifically for the Zeraphem.

Any help with this would be MUCH appreciated!

Thanks for taking a look...

Are you kidding? I love this stuff!

A few questions, though: I need some clarification on the shell. You say it hinges between the lower two appendages. How, exactly? I'm imagining an upright clam with the hinge on the bottom (the crotch) that opens upward with the upper appendages sticking out from between the shell halves.
Also, you described the lower limbs as legless feet. Does that mean there are no joints in the bottom limbs - they're just feet attached to the body? Kind of like ET...?

The lower appendages are just meaty two-toed feet, which pop out to either side of the shell's hinge, which as you said would be in the Zeraphem's "crotch", which I would say are like a snail's foot except that it has two fat toes at it's point. Strictly speaking there aren't any joints anywhere on a Zeraphem, think of clams, oysters, snails, and slugs and you're headed down the right direction... Once again, thanks for taking my request, and if there're any more questions just let me know...
