What's in a Name?

Since we're all getting to know each other nowadays, I thought it would be fun to tell how we got our names.

My name is from my first and most beloved Star Wars RPG character (which is probably painfully obvious if you've been here a while)! His first name was inspired by (stolen from) Asok the intern (of Dilbert), but with a different pronunciation, and his last name (Yeesrim) he shares with a Gran senator from Episode I (since they are related, after all!).

So tell us then - how came you by your name??

Tusserk

My name hails from the Saga Edition core rulebook!! Haha. Tuss is the only SW character I've ever played (not counting a brief and adorable stand-in character I had for a few sessions while Tusserk was, ahem, MIA) -- we started the campaign at the start of last year, and we're still going with it!!

It's one of the standard suggested Trandoshan names in the book, and though I usually like to get super creative and put a lot of effort into my character names, I just really really liked the sound of it, and also wanted to go with a name that we could regard as 'common' amongst the species. And so Tusserk was born.

His surname, 'Antilles', comes from our very first session, where we had to report to our superior officer. I was an absolute novice in the world of Star Wars at the time, and whispered to husband-GM ("PSST. I HAVE NO SURNAME. WHAT IS A COMMON ALDERAANIAN SURNAME!?" --as a large part of Tusserk's backstory was the fact that he was adopted by a lovely human family on Alderaan.) He paused a moment, then announced; "ANTILLES. Yes. Actually, y'know what? You can be the adopted son of CAPTAIN ANTILLES." To which I replied; "......who?", to which HE replied; "This is a consular ship! We're on a... *choke choke choke* ...diplomatic mission."

So yeah. In OUR version of the universe, the dear Captain has an adopted reptile boy!

Judas

Man, the origin of my name is sooooooo dull:
My real name is Jude.
In high school my friend Wade, knowing how much I hated my name at the time ("Hey, Jude" being sung at you 157 times a day can do that), started calling me Judas. He thought it would be even more annoying.
He was right.
After graduation the name fell into obscurity and was nearly forgotten (much like the One Ring) until I got my current job.
My job requires me to wear a name tag.
My last name starts with "S".
My name tag reads "Jude S."
Jude S.
Judas.
It stuck. Again.

Xanamiar

Xanamiar actually came from Qui-Gon Jinn's first apprentice that went bad. Xanathos ... I hate stealing names from anywhere, so came up with Xanamiar Knight ... it's a name that I've been using online for about 15 years now...

It's as annonomous as I am :)

swrpggm

Mine is a boring acronym that I use around the web. Star was roleplaying game game master. Swrpggm. P.s.@xan: Xanatos is one of my very favorite obscure characters, I've used that name as a video game tag since jedi apprentice two came out. :)

The GM knows the will of the force.

Lord Crumb

My dad's nickname is "Cookie". A friend of mine was in the National Guard serving under my dad and when he meet me he said "You Cookie's boy, your just a Cookie Crumb." he puased for a moment and then said "Crumb, that is who your name now." So when I found SWAG I decided to see if they would let me use Lord as part of my name and "Lord Crumb" was born.

Rozali

Most of you guys probably know mine since I say it alot. Roz is made up, because one day in school, I made a glatorian myth. The main character being Salcari (who is another Star Wars character i made). The archenemy being Krollio (yet again SW character). Rozali was friend sort of, not important. Then Ali comes from the girl I like (Alexandra) and together, BOOM Rozali.
Only my best friend knows that name. We make SW characters together. I always beat him in Video Games and so I refer my character to being the Triumphant Rozali.

Ya Ya not as good as some the others, but I just wanted to let it out.

Rozali!!!!!!!!!!

Casca1967

Casca is a literary character name for the Roman who stabbed Christ on the cross and was cursed to walk the Earth until his return. The stories are his ever living adventures through time awaiting Christ return. I have been shot twice stabbed once, had yellow fever, multiple heart attacks, and fallen 800 ft freefall from a plane I wasnt supposed to leave while in the 82nd Airborne into Sicily Dropzone at Ft. Bragg. Seem to never die so started getting called casca.

skogthejawa

My name came from my first SW rpg and probably my only one I will ever be apart of unfortunately. It came to me when I was having a discussion with a fellow member of my party at the time about the lord of the rings dragon -Smog. Well, I had tried to think of what SW race to play, and at the time I thought that what A jawa was the smallest. So The race was decided, but then I didn't wan to use Smog as a name because I just didnt think it was very catchy, so I started messing around with the letters and decided that Skog was original and it just stuck.

just a character class.-The Duelist

Drig

Wow Casca!

Drig came about when I finally decided I wanted to play a dug in our first Star Wars Campaign and I came up with a bunch of rubbish names to which Asok said uck no... I seriously pestered him in a 7th grade science class for like an hour. He was trying to suggest using the example names from the species book and mixing it up but we didn't have the book on us at the moment. I was impatient and finally came up with Drig from the back of my mind somehow. I thought Asok would go nah but he nodded and said he liked it. Later on it would bother me after Attack of the Clones would be released how many dugs had names just like Sebulba so I modified his name to Drigoldo and everyone mostly calls him Drig. I even at one time was trying to come up with some weird nicknames for Drig like Slickmouth or Smooth Jet (Drig is something of a conman). Asok still torments me with those nicknames and I slap my forehead...

Asok

Oh my god Casca, ARE YOU FOR REALS? Dude, wtf. That is so awesome.

But I thought the story went that the wandering Jew was the immortal one - a Jew who was present when Jesus was talking about his return. He said they would live to see his return, so one of the Jews present became immortal and wanders the Earth waiting for him to come back...

...or summat.

Xanamiar

Asok you're thinking of John, whom Jesus told Peter, something like, What is it to you if he should walk the earth forever.

Some thought that it meant that he would, even though that's not what Jesus meant.. However it is interesting that John was the last of the disciples to die, and Peter was among the first.

But this isn't the place for religious discussions :) ... Not sure what Eclipses stance is on Religion around here...

Asok

I guess I thought it was more of a mythology discussion, since these stories aren't really canonical... sorry anyways.

Edit: I found the origin of the legend of Casca - it's from a series of books about an immortal soldier cursed at Golgotha.

And the wandering Jew legend: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wandering_Jew

Xanamiar

I wasn't trying to say anything bad Asok... No apologies needed at all :)

EDIT: Hey Asok, did you read the section about the origin.. that's what I was talking about :)

Asok

I was thinking of the bit from Matthew.

And Casca, I can only imagine...

dredwulf60

I wrote a manuscript about a futuristic band of Mercenaries. They were called the Dread Wolves.

When I started getting active on the internet, I wanted to use that as a tag the 'Dreadwolf'. But usually when I wanted to sign up most sites said that it was already taken. So I adopted the phonetic equivalent. The number 60 is just a random one that got suggested on one site when even dredwulf was already in use by someone. I went with it. Now it's usually just 'Dred'.

silk

my name came from when i first started doing Graf(Graffiti) silk was the name i used to tag, i chose silk cause that way when people asked me why silk, i could say cause I'm smooth like silk. problem is that i started using it for every thing(online name, online gaming handle, myspace, ect).not good when your doing graf to have your picture next to your graf name.(makes it easier for the cops to find you). i had to choose a new graf name cause my other one was to well know to me. but anyway i still use silk to this day for all my online names(or sosilk if silk is taken).

TNJadeonar

TNJadeonar is short for Terras & Nileeta Jadeonar.... A slight variant from Terras Jadeonar & Raven (aka TJR) which is my holonet alias.

Terras Jadeonar is my namesake and first ever SW rpg character, a Corellian smuggler with a heart of gold. Nileeta is his aqua toned female Twi'lek companion, and Raven is their female ship's holographic A.I.
