Well, folks, just a year and change after joining this group, I have received an offer on my first novel. It isn't Star Wars-oriented, but it is Sci Fi/Alternative History.

The book is titled "The Red Menace" and is set in the early 1950s as the Cold War is heating up. The hero served in WW II and is now a civil engineer working for the Army at White Sands Missile range when he stumbles into espionage activity being conducted by people that dissolve into blue toothpaste (that's what it looks like, anyway) when they die. Not knowing where they come from, he and the government officials that start investigating call them "Martians".

The story is supposed to read a little like one of the old flying saucer movies of the 50s, with a good dose of actual science thrown in. I'm looking forward to seeing my book on the shelf in my neighborhood bookstore.

Now why would I tell everybody so much about this? I need help with my cover art. My lawyer and I are reviewing the contract and putting finishing touches on the manuscript, but i don't have a cover. I'm a working stiff, so I have to do this on the cheap. I can't promise any $ up front, but I *will* offer my word that when the sales start, the artist will get a little love. And of course, the back of the title page will have an author credit.

Interested parties should check my profile and send me an email. I've got some very good ideas of what I want to get done, some sketches I've put together as examples.

Congratulations, Velovich. You're living the dream. :)

Let us know when it's released so I can look out for it here.

I'm putting this into Community Discussions since this is where non-SW-related requests go.

Also, you might want to alter the thread title to let readers know this is a cover request. Maybe a "[Cover Request]" addition or something?

This sounds super cool! Go you, man!

By the way - colour me interested!
I will email...

Well, folks wanted me to post when teh book was available.

"The Red Menace" is now available through my publisher or Amazon. I recommend those interested go through my publisher, it's a little cheaper. I have to warn you - it's big, 700 pages in trade paperback (large format paperback).

Here is a link to my book on Publish America's website - go there and search for the ISBN below.

Mercy did some art for me, but I wasn't able to use it. She was able to help me figure out something on the art and I do want to thank her, here, for that.

I'd like to say that any of you that are budding authors, do *NOT* go with Publish America - they are a publish on demand outfit and do NOT pay an advance. Cheap doesn't begin to describe. There are some errors in the book in formatting and I found a couple of proofreading errors that didn't get caught. I'm not happy with them, not one bit.

That said, if you like alternate history, SF, and the old Flying Saucer movies of the 50s, you'll like this. For those familiar with the US film ratings system, I'd rate this as "PG", no-one under 17 admitted without a parent or Guardian buying the ticket. There's some fairly explict violence, harsh language, and some sexuality.

Asok

PG generally means "kid-friendly"... I think what you mean is "R", for "restricted".

And called 'Mercy' here... *sigh*

I have PM'd Velovich, but I don't know how often he comes by here.
I guess it's not like you can't figure out my name just looking at my signature, but it's something I do try to avoid!

Ah, well.
