Anybody else notice the distinct increase in activity around here lately? It seems like SWAG is getting some of its old life back! Which is awesome!

Do you think it's time to bring back some of our old ways - things that we used to indulge in, in better times? What so you to talk of our old monthly themed contests? Or JawaStu's old weekly submission rundowns? Any new ideas?

Let's keep this thing rolling!

I know I love this place. :) I'm new, I wish I'd found this a coupla years ago. I'd love to see ccontests, perhaps they could be of things that are poorly represented in the gallery or even poorly imaged in the "galaxy" as a whole. Lol. But I'm really here mostly as a spectator so my opinion has a *little les weight. I think. Lol

I joined June 17th 2009, but I had known since the beginning of that year. I would people post stuff and I wished that I could reply, or comment. This is my homepage on my Mac, this place goes deep down into my heart. Sometimes I post weird comments, or misspell obvious words, so I would love to see what this place was, a couple years back. I think that contests would be a great idea, a little competition in a friendly community.

Judas

I think yer onto sumthin' Asok.
I'd like to see something like "Take the most obsure character you can think of and put them in a scene where they play a major role in the unfolding of Star Wars history."
But maybe less wordy:P

Asok

Haha, me likes this idea Judas! Smells like our first contest theme. Sort of a Tag and Bink affair, I like it!

I have not made as many comments as in the past but I still come by the site a couple of times a day. I love this site and I am glad to see it pick up some steam.

You've got my vote!!

Not that I know what 'old times' were like around here, heh, but I can imagine. And I've gotta say I'm loving being part of a fun, friendly, creative online community again, so anything that gets a little more action going on around the place is good by me. :D Would love to get to know all you SWAG veterans a little more.

Judas

Ah, but if we have a "contest", who does the voting? Certainly not the artists. The comunity? The loyal fans? My mom and her friends from work?
Then, of course, what's the prize? Featured artist for a month? A puppy? A Bucket O' Prismacolours? TWO PUPPIES!!???

Asok

On the old SWAG, the contests turned out to never really be contests - just themed submissions. But themed submissions doesn't sound nearly as catchy.

Like I can remember the old days...I was drunk 9/8ths of the time:P

I DO remember we used to have kayaking trips, though..........
...rain....
..leaky tent....
chain-smoking-outta-breath-paddling-forever...

Good times, yo!

Rozali

Interesting life, Judas :T

what about all the artists draw their own character maybe a bio and the community decides who's is the coolest. Maybe an idea

Xanamiar

I seem to remember a way of knowing how long you've been around here, but can't seem to find it now :( .. but I know I've been here for some time, since before it shut down, once it got started back up again, I've spent quite a bit of time here, hoping to see it get back to what it was, a LONG time ago...

I look forward to seeing some of these things, would be fun to see the boards nice and active again.

Tusserk

I like that, Asok! A sort of... Secret Santa (or 'Kris Kringle' I believe you Americans call it? :P) dealio? If enough people are keen, I'd be willing to offer my services and try my hand at organising such a... thing.

Judas- Kayaking trips? For real?? Jealous as all fuzzy heck, if that's true! :D

Theme submissions were fun :)

Everyone would toss in suggestions, and the most popular or amusing idea was selected as the theme. Whoever in the guild was up for it would submit their take on that theme. I wasn't in the guild back then, but what I liked most it was never a pissing contest to one up another.

I think JawaStu's weekly art submissions review thread was born out of at the time a lack of gallery commenting feature. Since Eclipse took over and revamped the site from the original format, anyone who wants to comment on a submission can. Although, JawaStu's Weekly thread was more about artistically reviewing selected pieces. Taking a look at what the picture is about, how well it was done, the tone it was done in or what moods it conveyed. It was always in positive light, instead of harsh / negative critique.

Other activities would be cool, like Judas mentioned about obscure characters. Another take on that could be Obscure Droids or vehicles or ships, and so forth. Most unusual lightsaber hilt design, etc :)

Well I know that I'm still new. :)
And am glad to hear that it is picking up around here, I have been plugging the site on FB a little. ;)
The contests and fun runs sounds great and I would probably throw my hand in to the mix. :)
I know I don't hit the forums as much as I could. but I try to keep drawing as much as I can.
I hope you all don't mind. ;)

I'm already incorporating the "Obscure Character" notion into my next Howdy Jawa strip. Hope it turns out the way I'm planning *crosses fingers*

Also, since the colab with Mercy, I've been thinking that more artists should try joining forces. Everytime a couple SWAGgers team-up we end up getting a great finished product. I for one am not afraid to say "Inking and colouring are not my strong suits. Who wants to ink and colour my pics?"

Man, it's kinda like a Marvel Team-Up, but we don't get to punch Kang the Conqueror in the face!

TNJadeonar

An Art Colabs feature would be cool, though where would they be posted? in the Requests area or in a place all their own?

Even with my 3d renders, I do have an interesting scanline type render option - that can do pencil sketch to strictly line art type of output. It is a curiosity I have now, to try putting together a full scene, render output as lineart, and see what one of the fellow swaggers could do coloring it. I'll have to look into that option more.

btw JohnGWolf , I usually drop in and out every so often, even fell entirely off the radar for lengths at a time. I'm usually hanging out around here most when I'm either playing / gm'ing a sw rpg game, or I'm working on some SW renders to post. I don't always do strictly SW renders either.

On the flipside, its nice to see a bit more activity here, and when there's activity, there's more enthusiasm to keep coming back with interest on a daily basis (or every few days) to see what's new.
