I picked up the first issue of a new Star Wars comic series from Dark Horse this week... Other than Dark Times I have largely ignored most SW comics, but this one stood out. The series is set in the time immediately after Episode IV - the rebels have just destroyed the 1st Death Star and are now trying to find a new planet/hideout to set up a base of operations on. It focuses on Luke, Leia, Han & Chewie... I found it very refreshing, and liked that it has a slight vibe similar to the best issues from the old Marvel comics run (that may or may not be intentional).

#1 has a gorgeous cover painted by Alex Ross.

What's even more interesting about this is that since Disney has bought up Star Wars & also owns Marvel, I've heard that Dark Horse will not be starting up anymore new SW comic series... I think the moves are being made to shift the publication of Star Wars comics back to Marvel over the long run. I'm very interested to see where this series goes and what it will explore in the time between Ep. IV & Ep. V

Awesome, I might have to check it out!

Has anybody heard any news about a SW TV show? I read somewhere the other day that allegedly ABC was interested, but they'd have to be willing to put down $5 million per episode, and I'm not sure if they've committed.

Well, the original thought is that it would run $5 million per episode. Since Disney now owns Star Wars, that price should come down as they don't have to worry about license fees if they air on one of their own channels.

Hard to say at this point in time if we will get a live action show or not. I think a lot of it will depend on how the new game does (Star Wars: 1313), how much longer the Clone Wars will air and how well the new movie does. If all things look favorable, I wouldn't be surprised if they greenlight a live action show for a test run.

On a related note, I went to the comic shop today to pick up the new SW comic, and it was sold out. The comic shop guy said they even got three times the typical amount, and they STILL sold out. I picked up the new Planet of the Apes comics instead, but they only had issues 3 and 5. I just can't win...

I've been hearing from a few sources online that this new SW comic is selling out like crazy everywhere, and going for as much as $30 on eBay already. Crazy!!

Mad! I'm going to have to go check it out over this side of the world, I think...! If I can get anywhere near a comic shop any time soon. I am so bad at shopping.

Of course this has to happen while I'm stationed in Japan. Ah well, I'll have to see if I can get one of my state side friends to get a copy for me somehow... this sounds like the exact sort of comic that I love Dark Horse for. I was rereading tales of the jedi recently and just marvelling at how well DH manages to get the feel of the starwars universe down in their comics. Gritty, dirty, underhanded, fantastic, archetypical, more than a little moral, and ultimately beautiful.
