Request Forum Clean-up

I've begun deleting old requests. When I get done anything older than a year will be deleted. But I wanted to tell everyone that if your request has been deleted, this doesn't mean anything, please feel welcome to repost your request if you still want to see it done.

This is a way to insure that the person who requested the artwork will get to enjoy it, since they are obviously still around if they rerequest it.

This is being done to help the artists chose pieces, and to help the requesters to be able to refresh their request, and repost it without bumping it up.

I hope this is cool with everyone, seems like the best idea to me, and many of the regular artists here agreed.

Xanamiar

Everything older than 2 years is gone now... doing this slowly, because I have to click each one, edit, and delete :) ... But it'll be getting done :)

Methinks there should be a formal rule about bumping request threads, Xan, with reprecussions. If you bump your thread once, it's a warning. The second time, the thread is deleted. Create a new thread and bump *that* one, and we send ninjas to their house.

@Seghast: As I requester, I can totally get behind that. Of course we all want to bump our threads, but most of us show some restraint and follow the rules. So it's a little annoying to see people bumping their own threads by saying, "Oh sorry for bumping, I won't do it anymore". :P

Xanamiar

Don't pick on people to hard. It's in the guidelines, and people as a general rule don't read guidelines... And honestly, I'm not here to enforce the rules, I just let people know when they are breaking them.

I'm only here to help Eclipse keep the forums nice and neat. I do the other because it annoys me too :)

Xanamiar

And I'm going to add this thought...

If you are still around, and your request has been up on the boards for longer than 6 months. Give me a PM and I'll delete the old one, and you can repost it. Because I know the artists like to know that the requester is still around. This way you have control over it yourself, you're not bumping it, you're just recreating it...

It keeps the boards clean, and keeps old requests from becomming older. So If that's your case, just pm where the thread is, I'll delete the old, and then you can place it new.. Maybe give you the opportunity to change it up a bit also, without feeling like you are bumping it.

Seghast

Aw, but having our own little army of SWAG ninjas to do our bidding would have been a good thing; I mean, they could also take care of those pesky spammers for us who post random crap about cars, learning a foreign language, and tuberculosis in the Artwork Assistance forums.

Would it be a bad idea to give people the power to delete their old threads? It's always seemed kind of crazy to me that we have to wait for a moderator to erase an old thread that we started. Since this site has a lot of threads started that really only concern the one writing it, I think it might be cool to let members delete their own.

That would be an Eclipse decision thing :) ... but no, I don't think it would be bad to let people delete their own threads.

Also, what if replying to a request thread didn't bump it? Is that possible? I know sometimes people just get to chatting in somebody's request thread, which keeps it up top, while maybe no one really intends to pick up the request. And then people could add things to their thread, or say "I'm still interested", or whatever they want...

Xanamiar

Eclipse did state that in the next redition of the boards, that requests were going to be ordered in posted date, rather than last reply date....

So he has that in the works.

Asok

That should be coupled with some kind of notification system, so you know when your threads are being commented on.

Just as a reminder to everyone...

I've been trying to keep the Request forum clean, in this process I've been deleting requests that are 2 years of age or older.

However, if one of your requests was deleted, and you'd still like to see it done, Please do not hesitate to repost your request.

This clean up is a venture to keep the requests of those who still want to see them done towards the top. And to get rid of all the requests that the person who requested it is no longer looking at the boards, nor cares about the request anymore.

But once again, please repost any request that was deleted that you'd still like to see. Thanks.

Oh, and To the Artists here... Is there anything else you can think of that I can help to make the request forum a better place to fish through.

Asok

I think you're doing a great job, Xan, I'm not sure there's really anything else that needs to be done. Unless Eclipse wants to bestow greater admin power upon you, given his busy schedule and all!
