Member since: 2013So, in the guild member wish list, there was a mention of having some sort of notification of comments on content you care about. I thought about this for a few and came up with a first pass at a solution. Understand this is just a trial run to see how it goes, we're not stuck with it and I can certainly turn it off.
Forum Posts, Blogs, Images and News articles all have a "follow" link on them under the author information. You can click this at any time and you will start getting notifications of any comments posted to that content. Likewise, if you comment, you will automatically follow. You can easily unfollow content by clicking the unfollow link under the author information. Any nodes you post you will automatically be following. You can unfollow your own nodes.
I'm interested to see how this goes. There's a slight glitch in that you REALLY want to be logged in on www.swagonline.net. not .com, not missing the www's. I'm unsure why the links are being the way they are, but I'll toy with this later. It's late and I'm tired. Any content you've already produces you are NOT following yet. You can easily go follow it through the methods mentioned above. I'm eager to hear feedback on this.

I'm really interested to see how this is going to play out.
And now that I've commented here, I should find out shortly!
Yawesome.
Let's see if my attempts at fixing the links have worked.

Ok, I think my attempt at fixing the links worked. It's not perfect, but it'll do what we need. The more important part is that if you reply to the message that's going to pm the person, so this is BOUND to cause some confusion. I'll see what I can do about that, but like I said, this is totally just an initial attempt to see how it goes. If there are a bunch of accidental PMs flying around instead of comments it'll be really self-defeating. Still the basic approach seem mostly sane.

Also worth noting. You're not going to get notifications of your own messages. That just seemed obvious, but I thought I'd mention it.

I was wondering why I was getting those messages. I'm glad I read this. Less confused now.
I wrote a news article updating everyone on this, but in case you missed it, the Private Message system has been un-co-opted now in favor of a dedicated notifications tool. Hopefully this reduces confusion and gives you all a way of following content on the site that you didn't have in the old system.
