Music

I have found that folks with artistic inclinations tend to follow art in general, to include music.

That said, What sorts of instruments does everyone play? I browsed through other threads and couldn't find one to this effect; please let me know if I'm duplicating another. Incidentally, it would be nice to have a search feature on the forums...

I myself am proud of my skills on djembe and doumbek, and I recently made a dijeridoo, and have found circular breathing to be quite an evasive skill for me. My gf plays the mandolin, sax, tin whistle, and some weird Peruvian flute thing, so we jam regularly with our other musically inclined friends. We have vowed to own a hang [drum] someday. I like the idea because they're more percussive, and I have problems with melody. We both like that they look like flying saucers too :P

BASSOON to the MAX baby!! Yeah! haha

I've also got a tenor recorder, a duduk, a didjeridoo and a double flute laying around that I fool around with. And Drig and I used to jam on bass back in the day... Good times!

I used to play the piano but my skills are now rusty and currently I use a Yamaha keyboard to play.

BASSOON. Asok, you rock. That is so awesome!!

I love my piano super hard- been playing basically all my life. My baby is an upright Kawai, and one day I aspire to have a house big enough to fit a grand. (And, y'know, the spare cash to buy a grand!!) Can also play the flute but much prefer piccolos, and can fumble my way around a few guitar chords- but I usually leave guitars to husband/GM, though he usually prefers to just sing. I love love love love accompanying vocalists; and really miss regularly making music in a group. Ah, schoolmates, why you all got to move far away and have babies? Can I come jam with you some time, UnnaturalGas?

We've got a bunch of little musical odds and ends sitting around the house; tin whistles, recorders of various sizes, little percussive things, pan pipes, and in fact a djembe I got for my 21st that's in dire need of a service (I quite enjoy it, been to a couple of group classes with it but can't say I can do anything particularly skilful on it)-- and hubby recently picked up a three-string cigar box guitar which he promises to learn. It's pretty sweet. And has a lion on it.

I'd love to try out a bodhran some day.

Ha, that's what my stepdad says. It's a lie, though. He doesn't actually play the radio at all...

I've played the Viola, very little Piano, and some guitar. I toy with them all, just like I doodle when it comes to art. :)

I don't actually draw, but I did take Violin classes for four years. I stopped attending two years ago, because the class times conflicted with another thing I wanted to do, however, I appreciate classical-style music much more because of it now.

Haha! No, not anymore, anyway. I do it more for self-gratification these days. Plus, it's hard to find a band when you're as old as I am! :P

jeffmire

I play the Trumpet, Baritone, and percusion aka drums, and I can learn any brass intrument as fast as I get it. GO BAND!!!!

Tusserk

There's just something about them I can't handle! I'm not really a squeamish person, but the whole saliva element of the wind and brass instruments... yeeech, no thanks. Nice clean set of keys for me, please!!

I. J. --Whoa! Dude!! How awesome! I'm gonna sit here and listen to all of these, I am.

Asok- favourite orchestral piece! Go! (Or, better yet; favourite performance you've ever been a part of!) (Actually anyone can offer their own answers/experiences where relevant. Hah.)

Asok

I think my favorite ever was either Dvorak symphony number 7 or Beethoven's Coriolan Overture!
