I'm in the mood for sharing, so I figured I'd let you know about the stupidly ambitious artistic exercise I decided to embark upon this year that has been admittedly stealing a lot of my focus. Not a Star Wars thing, but it is an Art Thing, so hopefully I'm not being too drastically out of place here!! Anyhow, this year I'm drawing dogs. A heck of a lot of dogs. A dog for every day of the year, as a matter of fact- 366 dogs.
I'm not going to try and pressure myself into drawing EVERY SINGLE DAY, because that is preposterous and I'd have already failed, but basically if I can average a dog a day, then my goal will be met. I'm also hoping that every dog I draw is someone's dog; not just Miscellaneous Beagle Number Seventeen. So this is the bit where I beg you all for input! Seriously, at this stage I don't know enough dogs to get to 366 all on my own (though I'm doing better than I thought!), and I'd love it if you let me know about (ie linked or sent me pictures of) your dogs... your friend's dogs... your family's dogs... the dogs you grew up with... the dog down the road that irritates the crap out of you... I need more dogs!!
At this stage, though, I've been having a lot of fun with it. I have no goal with regards to the quality of or time spent on any individual drawing- just to get them DONE, in whatever medium and style as compels me at the time. And I'm definitely already learning a few things; just the simple act of constantly churning out drawings is a wonderful teacher, I'm finding! I'd recommend this sort of exercise to ANYONE wanting to push themselves a little, even if just for a couple of weeks.
Anyway, I'm putting it all up for the world to see here, because, well, I think having an audience will definitely help me stick with it, and it's also sorta helping me get over some of my anxieties with regards to people seeing work that I do in a hurry and the like... (seriously, the thought of people idly leafing through my sketchbook without my say-so is downright mortifying. I can't handle it). Feel free to watch along yourself, tell your friends, blah blah blah whatever!
Because dogs are awesome.

Ahhh, awesome, Xan!!! Stunning photographs, I've got to say... do you know if your sister keeps records of the names of all the pets she's photographed? I like knowing the name of the critter I'm drawing. :D But I'll definitely let you know when I use any of her shots for reference!
Also, naw, Asok. D: You don't have even any old old photos or something hanging around that could be scanned? Would love to see her.
Most of the photos actually have the dogs name's on them, if you highlight them. And my sisters dog is Libby..
The ones that don't have the dogs name on them, I have no idea what their names are, and I doubt she would remember ((She's good as long as she can remember her own name))
I should get you a pic of my dog HEX!! He is a standard black schnauzer, and right now he is so fuzzy he has the face of an Ewok!! I gotta figure out how to link a pic here...
