Any one here play Star Wars Minis???

Concerning my star wars minis "group", a few of us are die hard SWAG fans, but some have never heard of SWAG at all.

So I am curious if any of you SWAG members participate in the Star Wars Minis community (like the SWMGamers or Bloomilk websites)? Now that Wizards does not make new sets for this game, there are community developed "virtual sets"(In fact you can get the printed cards from the websites mentioned above). So, the community is heavily focused on the creative aspects of the game now: thinking up abilities, characters, and customizing figures. Perhaps there is more common interest now than ever between the "Minis" realm and the "SWAG" realm.

Bottom line: I think this site is great. But there are lot's of folks with interest in "table top" star wars gaming, but they simply don't know much about this site. Any thoughts on connecting with these guys?

I don't play Star Wars Minis, however I do use them in roleplaying when the positions of the characters are important and for that reason I got a couple starter packs but nothing more than that.

I think miniatures work great as a way to visualize a setting or encounter for an RPG, but it's very cost prohibitive. To play the miniatures game by itself is not only expensive but I think can limit the imagination somewhat.

Yeah, most people I've gamed with (especially me and my close friends) have developed a distinct preference for purely "cerebral" gameplay, with no physical representations. Everything is just sort of in the ether.

We've got a stack of minis, and my husband has on occasion played the actual miniatures game with a couple of his friends, but by and large we use them for tabletop RP. I have a blast modding them, tailoring them to whatever Mr GM requires for upcoming sessions, and would be keen to see what customisations other folk out there have made! It's kind of a side-hobby of mine, I guess.

Generally we crack them out for encounters; I, for one, find it super helpful with keeping track of where everyone's at. We often have big parties, PCs and NPCs fighting loads of enemies, and we are also a group VERY prone to distraction. (I love the distractions as much as the gameplay itself, though I know pausing mid-battle to go on a two hour tangental argument or make dinner or whatever isn't everyone's cup of tea. Especially when it happens several times during the one battle. It's, ahem, part of the reason GM's best mate stopped gaming with the rest of us some time ago...) I'd be lost half the time without the minis there just to keep me focused on where all the characters physically 'are'.

I've dabbled in minis, but I can never figure out how initiative is supposed to work. As I understand, it's one for one, but what happens when one player has more guys than the other? Do they just not get turns, or do they all go at once at the end of the round?

I've seen every tutorial online and still couldn't get anywhere with it, so I gave up. I've got friends that would play it, but we cant get past that part.

We still use my massive bag of minis plenty during sessions involving complicated combat, especially where hazards and obstacles need to be clearly demarcated. Found out pretty quick that, as the GM, putting a bunch of identical stormtroopers out as enemies can get confusing though, so we compromise the look of it sometimes for the sake of being able to keep track of individual enemies while staring at a mountain of unused duplicates.

Along the same lines, anyone remember the Epic Duels board game? Someone got it for my birthday when it first came out, but I never had anyone to play with, so it fell by the wayside. I loved it though.

@unnatural : once one person runs out of guys, the other person finishes all of their guys' actions. Each individual character activates every round.
I played the minis game a lot... we kinda stopped playing when they stopped making them. We also use them for playing the rpg.
Aaaand I own epic duels. Lots of good times with that too.
The GM knows the will of the force.
