Canon vs. Legends

I got it in my head I was going to improve & revise Hablyonus' backstory one of these days, including giving him a planet of origin. (That he wouldn't be aware of, mind.) Regarding planets, weapons, ships, and the like, are there any of you who utilize strictly canon material, or do you all do EU stuff too? It's probably a stupid question, but I was just curious.

Hanging onto EU stuff until forcefully proven otherwise, and even then, I'll take revisions on a case-by-case basis when it comes to personal/character/story stuff, haha.

Attachment issues aside, there's just way too much good, fun stuff established in 'legends' to just refuse to delve into it. There's already inconsistencies and weirdness and cringey stuff to pick and fuss through aplenty, always has been, and 'new' canon just adds another layer to that, really.

I know that Disney is trying to carve out its' own nitch on the Star Wars Universe but I loved when the Thrawn books came out and Shadows of the Empire plus the Jedi Academy books.  It hurt when Disney just threw them in the trash though.  Until it is changed I am a EU person.  The most important is "Mara Jade".  What about her?

EU all the way. Scrapping so much material from so many wonderful creators was always a bad idea in my opinion.

One of my friends plays a witch of Dathomir in our game and they were mightily pissed to learn that as of one of the newest episodes of Rebels, the witches have all been annihilated, seriously messing with her backstory.

So, yeah, we're totally sticking with Legends.

That's the spirit! I like the way y'all think! I, personally am way too attached to the EU planets, ship, and weapon designs not to use them to an extent, but I always like to try to anchor some part of a character's backstory to a place, item, or faction that's fairly well established, even if not technically "canon".

I think you are all aware I'm not really into the EU. I know some of it and even like a few stories but there's, in my opinion, a lot of uninteresting stuff out there. That does not mean it's not of a certain quality, it's just not that appealing to me.

That said, I do enjoy creating new characters but I usualy try to come up with a backstory that fits into the cannon. You might also be surprised to hear I've never, ever, played a RPG before... sorry!

I tried my hand at the revised core edition from 2002. But 12 year old me had ADHD big time.

This is a bit convoluted, but bear with me- I have a point.

There's this- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIUQw1w5OqM

It sums up, I think, how most people feel about Star Wars fans, but brings up a particularly important point in regards to this whole canon/legacy issue.  Imagine if your favorite sports team was bought up by a different company and they decided to change the established history of that team, given that they're under new management.  I never got into sports, but I imagine there are parallels for sports fans.
